Meeting Recap for April 14, 2001
I want to thank everyone that attended our meeting, especially the out of town visitors. We had a total of 18 people attending. Thirteen of those were returning members and the rest were new to GRAFUG.
I want to extend a special thanks to Optimal Solutions for providing the facilities as well as the beverages for our meeting. We really appreciate it.
In a previous meeting, Cathy Pountney announced the up and coming Online VFP Tutorial that will be hosted by the Virtual FoxPro User Group (VFUG.org) website. It was originally expected to be up and running by now, but due to an illness of the coordinator, it's been delayed. Look for future announcements of its release.
Mike Feltman of F1 Technologies came up from Toledo, Ohio to show us Visual FoxExpress 6.0 which is a framework for developing Visual FoxPro applications. It's one of the leading frameworks and is very powerful. If you aren't using a framework today, it would be worth your while to investigate Visual FoxExpress. It's rich features will save you tons of time coding new applications.
Mike also talked a little bit about their new framework extension called FullContact. It's a rich source-code based Contact Management framework extension for Visual FoxExpress 6.0. The product reduces development time by providing many of the subtle aspects of Contact Management that most custom business applications require.
Lastly, Mike intended to talk about xCase, but ran out of time. However, you can visit their website to download a free demo of the product.
F1 Technology's website is at www.f1tech.com. From there, you can read all about Visual FoxExpress 6.0, FullContact and xCase. You can download the help for Visual FoxExpress and a free demo version of xCase.
Congratulations to Jeff Rumsey, one of our newest members. He won a free copy of Visual FoxExpress that was graciously donated by F1 Technologies.
NOTICE --- The May 12th meeting has been cancelled due to conflicts with the Orlando DevConnections Conference.
The next GRAFUG meeting will take place on Saturday, June 9th. The meeting will start at 11:00am and run till 1:00pm (or later). Following the meeting, those interested will be going to lunch at a local restaurant. (Click here for directions)
The first order of business will be electing new officers. Currently, Cathy Pountney holds the President and Secretary offices and Mike Potjer holds the Vice-President and Treasurer offices. Cathy has also been serving as the webmaster. Since Cathy has recently accepted a 6-month contract position with the Microsoft FoxPro Team in Seattle, it will be pretty difficult for her to continue holding two offices and be the webmaster from 2300 miles away. And it would be even more difficult for Mike to take over holding all four offices. Therefore, it was decided that elections will be help to appoint new officers to help distribute the tasks involved in running GRAFUG. To be elected as an officer, you have to be a member in good standing. If you'd like to volunteer for any of the offices, please send Cathy an email letting her know which office(s) you'd like to hold.
As of yet, I don't have a specific main presentation or cool tool presentation scheduled for the meeting. If there's anything that you'd be willing to present, please send me an email and let me know. We'd be especially interested in hearing from anyone who attended the DevConnections conference in Orlando.
I hope everyone finds this information helpful and if you have any comments, please send them to me.
